Speedball

What is Speedball™?

Speedball is the trademarked name behind a web-based register designed to capture a global database of people interested in cricket.

When & where will you see Speedball ?

Launched at the inaugural Festival of Cricket at Bowral, NSW, Australia during October 1st & 2nd 2005, Speedball will be rolling out through pre-scheduled sessions and on-demand session packages designed to capture bowling speeds, throwing speeds & throwing distances for participants of all ages. Results and images from sessions will be posted to the Speedball website register, and session participants will be able to access full register results, as well as search by name and activity.

It's not just about speed ……

Importantly, Speedball is not just about how fast one can bowl or throw - although participants can elect to take this approach. Rather, it is about providing participants with the opportunity to appreciate at what speed they bowl & throw. In cricket, for example, a spin bowler is keen to know how fast he or she bowls in relation to other (notably topline) spin bowlers -  just as a slow, medium-pace or "quick" bowler is keen to appreciate the relative speed of their "slower" or "quicker" deliveries.

The same principals apply in baseball. Accordingly the Speedball register will show for each participant a range of delivery speeds, including the fastest delivery, nominated "slow ball", and the average speed of regular deliveries.

By the way, can you throw ?

When possible (notably, when space permits) participants can also elect to be measured for the distance they can throw, with the best of three throws being registered to the site.

Over time, other activities will be introduced into the mix and included on the register.

How will Speedball roll out ?

The Speedball network has been designed to support and integrate with group activities. A speedball session is ideal for bringing some excitement and ongoing interest to your club or association activity. Furthermore, each session not only expands upon the database of registered participants as it goes, but draws more web traffic to other value-adding areas on the site, including (but not restricted to):
  • profiling clubs & players
  • creating forums
  • promoting interclub/regional tours/visits
  • interesting, relevant information links
  • a Speedball newsletter - events, bios, giveaways, tours

Speedball…. Simple, global

The Speedball concept is globally appealing because of it's simplicity. The sessions are designed to promote a sense of fun, while the register is designed to build a global community of people interested in sharing ideas and promoting activities which provide enjoyment.

Speedball Sessions

There are two ways a Speedball session will be made available:

(i)    Formal scheduled roll-out: this involves the strategic roll-out of formal speedball sessions to clubs and interested parties. This schedule will be updated weekly and is accessible from the website ...more info

(ii)    Session packages: theses packages are designed to allow groups to run their own Speedball sessions. The package  includes easuring equipment (speedgun), readout displays, signage, session guidelines, forms, and recommendations for running a successful session. There is a fee, but there are smart ways to fully subsidize the fee and create fund raising opportunities ...more info
